Harvey & Jay Goldman are committed to providing our personalized, professional, and religious funeral counseling to those who call upon us at their time of need. We meet with every family to ensure attention to every detail.

Chapel Service:

Our Chapel at 174 Ferry St. in Malden has seating for 175 with ample standing room available for an oversize crowd. The benefit of a service in our chapel is a comfortable setting for friends/family to gather, share memories and pay tribute to a loved one. It may be more desirable in inclement weather or if seating is needed for older people attending the service. The funeral service is usually followed by a procession to the cemetery for committal prayers and interment.

Graveside Service:

Graveside services are held exclusively at the graveside. Friends and family meet at the cemetery, usually a half-hour before the appointed service time. At most of the Jewish cemeteries in the Greater Boston area, people gather at the main walkway of the cemetery, and then walk to the grave site at the scheduled service time. However at Sharon Memorial Park people gather at the designated graveside service area. A procession is formed, at the scheduled time of service we follow by car to the grave site.
A graveside service includes all the same elements as those begun at a synagogue or funeral home. A graveside service is no less dignified than any other service location. The main difference is the elimination of a procession.

Families often like the convenience, simplicity, and intimacy of a graveside service. Families should always keep in mind the potential for inclement weather in which case there is usually an option for a tent. Seating is often limited to the immediate family.

Temple/Synagogue Services:

Many families feel that a funeral service at the temple/synagogue for their family member is very personal and comforting. This is a spiritual home where many joyous and meaningful life cycle events have taken place. Depending on the congregation's policy, a funeral can be held in the temple/synagogue, for a member or a close relative. For families with no congregational affiliation, a funeral can be held in our chapel or in the facility of one of our temple/synagogue partners. The funeral service is followed by a procession to the cemetery for a committal service and interment.

Temple Partnership Program:

Goldman Funeral Chapel has partnered with several area temples and synagogues to enable funeral services for non-members to take place at these beautiful facilities. This program is specifically set up to accommodate families of the Merrimack Valley and North Shore that want the option using our personalized Goldman service with the comfort and convenience the following synagogues offer.

• Temple Emanuel 7 Haggetts Pond Rd., Andover
• Temple Ner Tamid 368 Lowell St. Peabody

Cremation Services:

Cremation is discouraged by traditional Jewish ritual. However, we accommodate non-traditional families that opt for cremation.We offer different cremation options, from a direct cremation with no service or a service at our chapel or (reform temple) followed by the cremation. Having a service allows the opportunity to memorialize a loved one, as well as receive condolences and support from friends and family. A service can be officiated by a reform rabbi or someone chosen by the family.

After the cremation process is completed, there are final disposition options:

• Family possession
• Burial at a cemetery or Entombment
• Full scattering or partial scattering

If a burial at a cemetery is chosen, we can help arrange for the burial. Otherwise the cremains will be returned to the family in either a minimal container provided by the crematory or you may purchase an urn which is a final container that protects the remains. It is designed to be a permanent container for possession, burial, or to hold cremains until the time of scattering.

Scattering or partial scattering is final and irreversible. For this reason, careful consideration is suggested. We will not scatter ashes for the family.

Out of State Arrangements:

When a loved one dies out of the state we recommend calling Goldman Funeral Chapel first. We have found that it eases the family burden to work with one funeral home and is more cost effective. We will take care of all the details for transportation back to Boston with our out of state affiliates.

Inter-Faith Families:

We at Goldman Funeral Chapel recognize that we can not achieve our mission, of honoring the deceased and comforting mourners, without reaching out to interfaith families.
Some local Jewish cemeteries have accommodated both interfaith families, and the traditional practice of excluding non-Jews from Jewish cemeteries, by setting aside a section for graves where interfaith couples can be buried side by side. We at Goldman Funeral Chapel are experienced at assisting inter-faith families fulfill the needs of the living, while honoring the deceased, by planning either traditional or non-traditional services. In this way we do our best to make sure that this is a meaningful experience of comfort, compassion, and respect.
